ALTA, Iowa - River Valley picked up its ninth road win of the season in 10 tries on Friday (Feb. 14) grabbing a 46-44 non-conference win over Alta-Aurelia.

River Valley received a scare, but the Wolverines will end the regular season on a high note. Meanwhile, Alta-Aurelia had lost four straight and head into tournament play with a sub-.500 record at 8-13 on the year.

The Wolverines overcame an five-point (11-6) first quarter deficit, and wound up trailing 20-18 at halftime. Alta-Aurelia showed its grit outscoring River Valley 13-9 in the third quarter to take a 33-27 lead into the fourth period. The host Warriors self-dstructed in the games final minutes committing too many turnovers down the stretch, which allowed River Valley to get back into the game and eventually earn the victory.

Alta-Aurelia is 0-5 in games when they score 50 or fewer points.

Foul trouble also created issues for Alta-Aurelia as two of their primary offensive threats got into foul trouble - Anthony Krier and Trey Engelmann each played withfour fouls.

River Valley's 6-foot junior Garrett Trapp scored a game-best 20 points and added seven rebounds and two steals. River Valley maintained a slight plus +3 edge (28-25) on the glass with the Wolverines' Tyler Towne and Krier of Alta-Aurelia tying for game-high honors each finishing with 10 rebounds. Krier also added a game-best eight assists.

Beau Miller and Towne each finished with nine points for River Valley, now fashioning a 14-7 record.

Engelmann led Alta-Aurelia offensively with 13 points and Logan McCoy wound up with 10.

Alta-Aurelia (8-13) have to now prepare for its Class 2A District 2 quarterfinal against OABCIG (16-5 ), who picked up a seven point win against the Warriors on Feb. 11. Alta-Aurelia and OABCIG tip-off at 6:30 PM in Sac City. The Falcons will eneter the game riding an 11 game win streak.

River Valley will play its Class 1A District 16 quarterfinal matchup in Correctionville on Thursday (Feb. 20) at 7 PM against Ridge View. The Wolverines are already credited with a 13 point victory over the Raptors back in December. Ridge View enters the matchup with a 9-12 record.
